Cleveland Browns Not Ready to Name Starting Quarterback

The Cleveland Browns added quarterback Jason Campbell in the offseason to provide some depth at the position and competition for current starter Brandon Weeden. While Weeden is expected to hang on to the starting gig, Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski is not ready to name a starter.

“Right now it’s too early to say anything one way or another,” Chudzinski said. “I expect both of these guys to compete. I don’t know any other way. Anybody that’s on a team is competing from my standpoint. We want to put these guys in a situation, give them every chance to succeed and we’ll see how that all plays out.

I’m hoping that the best man wins the job and that he gives us a chance to win.”

If Weeden hangs on to the starting position as expected, he will need to keep playing at a high level if he wants to keep Campbell in the back up role.

Campbell is certainly capable and he could hear his name being called if Weeden struggles early in the year.
