Floyd Mayweather made his highly anticipated return to the ring on Saturday night to defend his WBC welterweight title against Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand Garden Arena live on pay-per view. After a tough battle from Guerrero, the fight went to the scorecards as all of the judges scored the fight in favor of Mayweather. He remains undefeated and advances to 44-0.
All three judges scored the bout 117-111 for Mayweather.
Guerrero had gotten off to a good start, but Mayweather showed why he is undefeated and continued to pull away as the fight went on. The big difference in this fight was Mayweather’s hand speed and his ability to use his right as a lead hand and land with every opportunity.
The call for Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez will now begin.
Earlier on the night’s co-feature on the fight card, Abner Mares remained undefeated and earned a ninth round stoppage over Daniel Pone de Leon to become the new champion at 126-pounds. With the win, Mares earned a title in his third different weight class — bantamweight, super bantamweight and featherweight.
Overall, it was a great night for boxing.
