When the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat, the saying is there will be blood, but right off the bat in Game 1 on Monday there actually was. Early in the first quarter, Bulls point guard Nate Robinson and Heat MVP LeBron James were both hustling after a loose ball and when they dove, the much smaller Nate Robinson got pinned under the much larger LeBron James and the result was Robinson’s head inadvertently getting slammed into the court.

Robinson began bleeding pretty profusely and Bulls players surrounded him as he tried to pick himself up. Robinson went to the locker room but amazingly returned to the game after getting his lip stitched up. The most ironic part about this is had this been the NHL, LeBron James would be facing a suspension simply because there was blood involved. Much like the inadvertent hit by Eric Gryba on Lars Eller, James wasn’t intentionally trying to hurt Robinson, rather it was just a sequence of events that led to someone bleeding.

To his credit, LeBron popped up right away and went to check on Robinson who was sitting on the side of the court. The MVP stayed by Robinson until he got up, even if at that very moment James wasn’t really the person Robinson wanted to see at that point.

While it wasn’t malicious, there has already been blood spilled in the Bulls-Heat series and there will likely be plenty more of it flowing, both literally and metaphorically.
