The New York Rangers were without defenseman Marc Staal for Game 4 of their series against the Washington Capitals, but they were still able to get the win on their home ice at Madison Square Garden. Now, with the series shifting back to Washington D.C., the team will still be without Staal as they face a tougher task in front of the Verizon Center crowd.
Staal won’t say why he has been unable to go the past two games, but he simply states he doesn’t feel he is ready for a game situation.
“I wasn’t able to go,” Staal said, per NHL.com’s Dan Rosen. “I’m not going to go into any detail of what happened. I just wasn’t able to play. On the ice it didn’t go particularly well, and as the day went on I just couldn’t see myself getting into a game situation.”
As for a potential return date, Staal will test out his injury tomorrow and see if he can return to the line up for Game 6 back in New York.
“I’ll wake up [Saturday] and go at it again,” added Staal. “With this thing, the way I’ve been dealing with it is I wake up in the morning and take it from there. I couldn’t speculate one way or the other.”
