John Abraham made a name for himself chasing down quarterbacks, but the veteran remains a free agent despite visiting with several teams since being cut. One of those teams was the Tennessee Titans, and while he left Tennessee without a contract offer, the Tennessean is reporting that the Titans may still be interested in signing Abraham. Dwight Freeney or possibly even Israel Idonije somewhere down the line.

"The Titans sound as if they’re still open to the idea of adding a veteran defensive end such as John Abraham, Dwight Freeney or Israel Idonije, but they’re being patient in their approach."

The Titans were hoping to draft a speedy edge rusher in the draft, but Dion Jordan and Barkevious Mingo failed to fall to them at 10th overall, so they elected to go with offensive line help.

So the need for a presence on the edge is still there, and it’s one that can be filled by Abraham, Freeney or Idonije. The Titans have spoken with Abraham i the recent past and it was even reported that he would be signing a deal there. That never happened, but the door remains open for that to happen. Another door that is open leads to the Titans making a run at Dwight Freeney. The Colts veteran is one of many “old timers” with something left in the tank but out of a job.

Israel Idonije also remains a possibility for the Titans as they met with the defensive end last week as well.

Tennessee didn’t go hard in free agency and certainly didn’t get everyone they wanted in the NFL Draft, which means they’re likely going to spend some more money to lure in veteran talent at some point before the beginning of the season.
