Coming into the 2013 season, Detroit Tigers prospect Avisail Garcia had a great chance to make the big boy roster, which says plenty enough considering how stacked the Tigers’ lineup is. Unfortunately though, despite a solid Spring, it didn’t work out as the Tigers wanted to give Garcia a bit more seasoning at the AAA level. However, good things come to those who wait as it appears that Garcia will be joining the Tigers at some point during their series with the Houston Astros, which begins this evening.
According to Jason Beck, Garcia was not listed on the Mud Hens travel roster and was not with the team for their morning getaway game:
Mud Hens radio broadcast says
@AvisailGarcia34 not in Indy with team today for morning getaway game. No roster move yet.
Garcia had a small cup of coffee with the Tigers last season, hitting an impressive .319 in 23 games and even found himself on the playoff roster where he hit .261 with 4 RBI during his 23 postseason at-bats.
The 21-year-old outfielder was named the 2012 Minor League Player of the Year for the Tigers farm system and is currently hitting hitting .432 at AAA Toledo.
No corresponding roster move has been announced, as of yet.
Garcia is the Tigers #2 prospect for 2013, per MinorLeagueBall.com.
