Things should get a bit better in the Oakland A’s outfield this week as not only did the Athletics activate Coco Crisp from the disabled list today, but they’re also planning to activate Chris Young on Friday – assuming all goes well with his rehab stint which begins tonight.
Crisp was placed on the disabled list with a retroactive date of April 30th thanks to a left hamstring strain, but given there were no setbacks during his rehab, he was activated and will start tonight in center field.
Meanwhile, power bat Chris Young, who the Athletics acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks this offseason, was set to return today from his stint on the disabled list but he experienced a bit of soreness in his left quad. The Atheltics wanted to give him a bit more time, so he’s been sent to AAA Sacramento and will play there tonight and tomorrow before making a hopeful return to the A’s on Friday evening.
Both players were a big loss for the A’s as Crisp was hitting .283 with five homers, 12 RBI and eight stolen bases in 24 games prior to his injury while Young, although not producing from an average standpoint, had four homers and 15 RBI in 23 games.
