The Ottawa Senators are down 2-0 in their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins but it appears as though they’ve gotten a bit of good news. After missing basically all of the season with a back injury, center Joe Spezza is expected to return to his place on Ottawa’s top line for Game 3 against the Pens.
Jason Spezza confirms that he is ready to play in Game 3 tomorrow.

Spezza played the first five games for the Sens but was then lost to a back injury that has had him out since January. The Sens top center will return to the lineup at home in front of the Ottawa faithful, which should no doubt give the Sens a sizeable advantage in terms of morale and energy as they try to win their first game of the series.
But Spezza’s return to the series not only gives the Sens a boost in Game 3 but his offensive production will be welcomed back with wide open arms and beaming smiles. One of Ottawa’s biggest weaknesses is an inability to rally late after giving up early goals and it’s something that has them sunk in a 0-2 hole at the moment.
Spezza may not single handedly fix the scoring problem but having another loaded scorer skating against the Pens defense is never a bad thing. Based solely off the juice of Spezza’s return, expect the Sens to win Game 3 but the question is how effective will he be beyond that? Ottawa is certainly hoping he’ll be a factor and the Pens are keep ing their fingers crossed that there is rust on Spezza that won’t be totally shaken off until it’s too late for the Senators.
