Mike Krzyzewski Considering Coaching Team USA Basketball in 2016 Olympics

Mike Krzyzewski had previously said that he was done coaching the USA men’s basketball team, but according to the latest report he could be having a change of heart. USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo is willing to wait for Coach K to make his final decision, but he is beginning to run out of time. Team USA must name a by July and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Coach K on the sidelines once again.

Per Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated:

Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski acknowledged in a phone interview Saturday that he’s in discussions to return as head coach of USA Basketball through the 2016 Olympics.

“There’s a chance,” Krzyzewski said. “That’s correct.”

It would be a hard job for Krzyzewski to turn down. If he returns to the bench, he would be coaching the best international team that exists. That could be enough to get him to give it one final run at the Team USA head coach.

Coach K has gone 62-1 with two gold medals — Beijing and London.

We should be hearing official word on whether or not Coach K will coach the USA once more in the coming weeks, but there seems to be a hunch that he is going to give it a go.
