While Texas Rangers top prospect Jurickson Profar did have a cup of coffee last Summer (and it was a SMALL cup of coffee, just nine games), he didn’t really get to experience much Major League action. That’s about to change.
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Texas Rangers have called up Profar:
Jurickson Profar is in Arlington. Waiting to hear on corresponding move. Has been hitting well lately in Class AAA.
Profar has been doing very well in AAA, hitting .278 with a .370 OBP to go along with 4 HR and 19 RBI in 37 games, this after a slow start.
There has been no corresponding roster move announced as of yet, though, many are speculating that Ian Kinsler might be placed on the disabled list as he’s been dealing with a rib injury.
Profar was ranked as the #1 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB coming into the 2013 season and at only 20 years of age (and just 20, mind you) should prove to be a force in the Rangers’ lineup for years down the road.
If Kinsler does hit the disabled list, as suggested, Profar should find himself in the Rangers’ lineup daily and assuming he plays well, he may force the Rangers to find himself a role in Arlington.
The Rangers will take on the Detroit Tigers tonight on Sunday Night Baseball.
