A heavyweight bout between former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne was originally scheduled for UFC 164 on August 31, but the promotion announced today that there would be a change of plans. Overeem vs. Browne will be bumped up two weeks to August 17 at the UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 event, which UFC president Dana White promised would be the best card they have ever assembled on free television.
White was quick to state that Overeem vs. Browne will not be the main event, but it will be on the night’s featured card.
Overeem is coming off of a knockout loss to Antonio Silva, who is facing UFC champ Cain Velasquez this weekend, while Browne is coming off of a knockout win over Gabriel Gonzaga at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 will be featured to help launch the new 24/7 sports network. The event will be held at the TD Garden in Boston.
Here are the current fights scheduled for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1:
- Travis Browne vs. Alistair Overeem
- Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown
- Michael Johnson vs. Joe Lauzon
Irish featherweight Conor McGregor is also expected to face a yet to be named opponent, while heavyweight Daniel Cormier is lobbying for a fight on the card.
