Rob Ryan Sees Himself as Perfect Fit For New Orleans Saints Defense
By Josh Sanchez
New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan joined the team this offseason after being fired by the Dallas Cowboys for having an underachieving defensive unit. To be fair to Ryan, the defense he was running in Dallas was successful until they were bitten hard by the injury bug. Now, Ryan will have a chance to show that he is still one of the top defensive coordinators in the league by turning around the Saints defense, which was the worst in the NFL last season.
Ryan spoke to the media for the first time on Thursday and he said that he is the perfect fit in New Orleans, because both sides have something to prove this year.
“These guys have been well-coached before. They’re smart. They’re just ready to win,” Ryan said, according to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “I think we all have a chip on our shoulder after last season.
“I know everybody is on the same path. That big sign that used to be up there [in the Saints’ indoor practice facility] — ‘Do Your Job’ — I’ve heard those words before. I plan on doing it. I’ve got two Super Bowl rings, one of them won out here in sweet, live ass New Orleans as part of a great organization.”
One of the things that Ryan will undoubtedly bring is some confidence that they have seemed to be lacking during their time as one of the league’s worst units.
It will be a transition for the Saints players as they attempt to fit in to Ryan’s new scheme, but Ryan seems to have a way about him that players love and they will suit up and put in the work to make his system work.
