The co-main event at UFC 160 was one of the most anticipated fights among the hardcore mixed martial arts fans. The bout featured a heavyweight clash between former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos and heavy-hitting fan favorite Mark Hunt. Both fighters were looking to earn a title shot with the win, so the leather was ready to fly.

Dos Santos and Hunt came out showing a lot of respect for each other as they used the first thirty seconds to feel each other out. After exchanging a few leg kicks, Hunt began to land some powerful counter shots to the chin of the former champ, then Dos Santos came back with a huge overhand right that dropped Hunt, but his strong chin allowed him to quickly recover as the two men made their way back to the center of the octagon.

It was Dos Santos’ speed that allowed him to beat Hunt and land powerful overhand rights with regularity.

Many thought that Dos Santos could bank on his superior ground game, but he was content standing with the former K-1 champion. The fans certainly weren’t complaining.

In the second round, it was more of the same. Both men were willing to stand toe-to-toe as they traded power shots over and over. Dos Santos continued to have the quicker hands and he was able to use his looping right to keep Hunt on edge. Dos Santos and Hunt were both getting rocked with huge punches and their chins were on display. After eating a powerful shot from Hunt that rocked him, Dos Santos decided to shoot and took the fight down to the mat for the first time but Hunt was able to survive in to the final round.

Hunt looked exhausted in the third round, but he was still digging deep and firing off some power shots. Dos Santos was the quicker, more athletic fighter coming in to the bout, and it was even more evident as the fight was coming to an end.

With less than a minute left to go in the fight, Dos Santos threw a wild spinning back kick that stunned Hunt and dropped him before Dos Santos dropped one final devastating punch to seal the deal.

It was a spectacular battle between two of the toughest men in the UFC.

It is rare that a fight delivers when it comes in with this much hype, but Dos Santos and Hunt went to war and gave us the fight everyone was hoping to see.
