UFC 160 Results: TJ Grant Stuns Gray Maynard With First-Round Knockout

After an exciting lightweight bout between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and K.J. Noons, it was time for UFC 160 to bring us a No. 1 contender match in the 155-pound division. Gray Maynard and red hot lightweight contender T.J. Grant squared off in the second bout of the night with a shot at Benson Henderson’s belt on the line. Maynard came in as the favorite, but Grant had upset on his mind while he was on his way to the cage.

Maynard started the fight with some wild combinations as he showed that he had a clear speed advantage early. While Maynard was the early aggressor, Grant did not back down and he was able to land some strong punches that stunned Maynard. As soon as Maynard was wobbly, Grant turned it on and hit him with a flurry of devastating punches that left Maynard hanging on for his life.

Maynard was able to stay in there for a few seconds, but Grant’s relentless pursuit eventually put an end to the fight with Grant earning a first-round knockout win.

With the win, Grant advanced to 5-0 at lightweight and he will face Benson Henderson for the title at a yet to be determined date.
