Heading in to UFC 160, UFC president Dana White had said the winner of a lightweight contest between Gray Maynard and TJ Grant would be next in line for a shot at Benson Henderson. In the past, White has promised title shots leading up to an event only to go back on his word, but that was not the case on Saturday. Grant dominated Gray Maynard on his way to a first-round knockout win and White confirmed during the post-fight press conference that Henderson vs. Grant was next in line.
As for a potential date for the title fight, White said the bout is being considered for the upcoming UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 card in Boston.
“There are four fights we’re looking at right now for that show, and that’s one of them,” White said.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 will take place at Boston’s TD Garden on August 17. It marks the launch of the new 24 hour FOX sports network and White has promised that this will be one of the best fight cards to ever make it on live network TV.
More information on the event is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
