There are beginning to be more details about the situation that caused quarterback Everett Golson to leave Notre Dame and it doesn’t look as horrible as we may have initially imagined. According to the latest report, Golson was suspended by the FIghting Irish for academic issues, but he plans to return. This fits in perfectly with the rumors earlier today that his departure was academic related and that the door was still open on his return.

From ESPN’s SportsCenter:

If that is the case, you can probably rule out the potential transfer of former Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt.

Tommy Rees may not be the long-term answer for the Fighting Irish, but under the certain circumstances he is the best and most experienced player that they have got. Rees is the most likely option to lead the Notre Dame offense in 2013 and that would leave the door open for a Golson return, which appears to be exactly what he hopes will happen.

Half of Notre Dame’s admitees ranked in the top 2% of their hs class; 90%, in the top 10%. Average SAT was 1440 (V and M); about 1 in 4 applicants was admitted. Every detail of Golson’s athletic stats has been and will be breathlessly reported, but his academic stats? Sorry: that’s private.
