Manti Te’o Impressing Teammates at San Diego Chargers OTAs
By Josh Sanchez
The San Diego Chargers have been doing their best to keep former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o out of the media spotlight since rookie mini camps and OTAs began. But while Te’o is unable to speak for himself in the public eye, his teammates have started to come forward and say how much the second-round draft pick has impressed them early in the offseason workouts.
Chargers fullback Le’Ron McClain said during a radio appearance that Te’o has done a great job at coming in and fitting in with the locker room and that Te’o has been working hard on the field.
“The guy came in, and he’s been working since he stepped on the field, stepped in the weight room,” McClain said, during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “He’s caught everybody’s eye to see that he’s a great player.
“I just think him handling this situation, everything that was down on him, he was still showing faith. He just wants to play football and be the best player he could be. I don’t even think about the [hoax] no more.”
Other than Maxim taking a jab at the fake girlfriend scandal, that story has been played out and most people aren’t even discussing the days of Lennay Kekua.
As for Te’o’s teammates, they just want to see him suit up and get on the field.
“The sky’s the limit for [Te’o],” McClain said. “I’m looking forward to seeing him on Sundays.”
