Some good news for the Tampa Bay Rays today as this morning, ace David Price played catch and did so without any setbacks.

Price, who was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained left triceps muscle was rumored to be “weeks” away from returning to action, even as recently as yesterday, but the game of catch appeared to be encouraging for all parties involved.

Per Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times:

There’s been no updated potential date of return for Price, though, the hope is he’ll return before the original “late June” prognosis – a prognosis that would have sidelined Price for over a month.

Prior to heading on the disabled list, Price had a 5.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in his nine starts, though, the numbers clearly inflated for the 2012 AL Cy Young award winner.

Jake Odorizzi will continue to take Price’s spot in the rotation.
