To the shock of nobody, Golden State Warriors forward Richard Jefferson exercised the player option in his contract today and will be paid handsomely for the 2013-2014 season.
Per Chris Haynes:
Not to anyone’s surprise, Golden State Warriors forward Richard Jefferson will exercise his player option for the 2013-14 season and become an unrestricted free agent after the season concludes, his agent Todd Eley of Stratosphere Sports conveyed to CSNNW.com
Jefferson will be due just over $11 million dollars in the final year of his deal, which could prove to be a solid asset come February’s NBA trade deadline. However, given the Warriors already elevated payroll situation, it could also eat into their ability to re-sign both Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry.
Jack, an unrestricted free agent has expressed his desire to return to Golden State as has Landry, who holds his own player option worth $4 million dollars. However, Landry has also expressed his desire to find himself a long term, lucrative deal, something the Warriors may not be able to offer.
Jefferson, who played just over 10 minutes a game for the Warriors last season, averaged 3.1 points and 1.5 rebounds a game.
