There has been a lot of doubt surrounding the makeup of the Boston Celtics 2013-14 roster, but it appears a major piece is returning for another season. According to Jackie MacMullan, the Celtics big man is expected to return next season, per rumblings she’s hearing close to Garnett.

“I’m hearing that Kevin Garnett is coming back for one more year,” MacMullan said on CSNNE, via Twitter. “They’re all waiting on KG”

MacMullan is plugged in around the Boston area and is perhaps one of the most reliable people their are when it comes reporting news that is factual rather than speculative. She didn’t come right out and say he’ll definitively be back, but it’s looking like Garnett is prepping the Celtics for his return and they’ll begin to make offseason plans accordingly.

One of those plans is to target Utah Jazz stud Paul Millsap in free agency, presumably to replace  Paul Pierce as Kevin Garnett’s partner in crime

“Everyone knows that they covet Paul Millsap,” MacMullan said when asked about the Celtics offseason plans. She went on to state that Millsap is “Plan A” for Boston and his arrival could call into question the future of Paul Pierce.

There have already been rumors that Pierce is going to be bought out by the Celtics but they’ll still be strapped for cash if they want to make a run at a big money free agent like Millsap. Al Jefferson has also been mentioned as a guy the Celtics could look into for help as well, but getting both may be hard.

Still, it appears big changes are on the horizon for the Celtics and Paul Pierce is starting to become less and less a factor in what Boston decides to do this offseason.
