One name to watch this offseason remains Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins who has been going in and out of favor with fans and management for the better part of his career. But there’s new ownership in town and a brand new head coach as well and according to the Sacramento Bee, that’s good news for Cousins.

Jason Jones is reporting that new ownership has “no intention” of trading Cousins despite teams like the Mavericks showing an interest in acquiring him.

No one has doubted Cousins’ talent but he has run into more than his share of problems so far in his career. His troubles have bogged down what should be an outstanding career up to this point and it’s something a lot of people around the NBA are hoping he gets a handle on his issues.

That’s something the new ownership group is baking on as well, since trading Cousins would be something that makes sense for a new regime coming in trying to rid itself of the issues of old. But Cousins is a guy the Kings want to hold onto and they’re hoping it’s a gamble that pays off.

Plus, there’s really no financial value in trading Cousins at this point since he’s still on his rookie contract. The wise move is to let Cousins play out the remainder of his deal and then make an assessment on his future. The Kings wouldn’t get a high draft pick for Cousins and anything else is useless to a rebuilding team like the Kings.

Sacramento needs Cousins to be a superstar for them and it appears they’re willing to wait and work with him in the process.
