It’s been said that there is no crying in baseball, but if you saw Jose Reyes’ injury, you might second guess that.
Reyes, who suffered a gruesome high ankle sprain after an awkward slide into second base in early April has been progressing well and could start a rehab assignment within the week, this according to the Toronto Sun.
From Mike Rutsey:
Shortstop Jose Reyes is making great strides in his recovery from his high ankle strain (left) and could be ready for a rehab assignment within a week.
On Thursday a pair of high top cleats arrived from Under-Armour, the brand with which he has a contract, and Reyes pulled them on to see how they felt.
Reyes, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins this past offseason, had been raking in his few appearances with the Jays, putting up an impressive .395 average and 5 stolen bases in just 10 games prior to the injury.
Assuming there are no setbacks, Reyes could return in the next three weeks, beating his initial diagnosis time.
