FC Barcelona striker David Villa has previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham, but it seems as though Liverpool are joining the race for the Spanish striker’s signature.
According to the Guardian, Liverpool’s boss Brendan Rodgers is interested in Sevilla’s Jesús Navas and Luis Alberto, but also covets Villa. Luis Suarez is rumored to be looking for the closest exit out of Anfield, and if the controversial striker is sold, Villa would seem as a decent replacement.
Since joining Barcelona, Villa has not quite been the prolific goal scoring machine most La Liga fans had grown used to seeing. He broke his leg and was sidelined for a while, and even though he came back he has struggled in the fight for a spot in the starting lineup. This season, Villa appeared in 27 games and scored nine goals.
Even at the age of 31, Villa could be a deadly finisher in the Premier League if he had a consistent role. He is versatile enough to fit in most systems and is comfortable playing as the lone striker.
The last few years have been quite tough for Liverpool, as the team has not managed to crack the top four since the 2008-09 season and has not been able to compete against the best in the Champions League.
