There are three teams with winning records still on the prowl for a new head coach and with news that George Karl’s job might not be safe Denver, a fourth team could enter the race. But while there are names like Nate McMillan and Lionel Hollins at the top of wish lists, Brian Shaw is perhaps the name being floated around the most as his job with the Indiana Pacers has made him a hot commodity.

According to the Detroit News, Shaw’s name has been discussed by the Brooklyn Nets but he’s reportedly “holding out” for a job offer from the Los Angeles Clippers.

"He’s been mentioned for jobs with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers, two teams well in front of the Pistons in terms of developing into bona fide contenders. The Detroit News reported Shaw is holding out for the Clippers’ job."

Shaw is currently focused on Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals where his Pacers are going to try and pull off the upset of the top seeded Miami Heat. Shaw is just an assistant on the Pacers coaching staff but his value has skyrocketed thanks to his job serving under Frank Vogel and the time is now for him to take a head coaching gig.

Brooklyn is reportedly very high on him, but if Shaw is really holding out for the Clippers job, he might miss out on the other teams who want to hire him. Los Angeles has discussed Shaw but he’s not the only name they’re interested in. The longer he waits, the more vacancies will be filled while he holds out. Shaw could realistically end up in a situation where he has to choose between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Detroit Pistons — two jobs that can hardly be deemed desirable.

Shaw seems to be a fit for the Clippers, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be offered the job. But he’s made his intentions known and if the Clippers want him, they know he’s not going to say no.
