Although Lionel Hollins earlier today reiterated his desire to stay in Memphis, the decision may not be his to make, which is why the Brooklyn Nets requested permission to interview him for their head coaching vacancy.
Per ESPN’s Marc Stein:
Brooklyn Nets, according to NBA coaching sources, have today formally requested permission to interview Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins
The Nets have been without a captain since firing interim coach P.J. Carlesimo after the Nets’ disappointing first round loss to the Derrick Rose-less Chicago Bulls.
The request for permission is nothing but a formality as the Grizzlies who’ve been extremely non-committal towards Hollins have already granted permission to other teams, like the Los Angeles Clippers.
Hollins and the Grizzlies have participated in contractual talks recently, but, neither side appears to be comfortable with the others requests, resulting in a “break down” this past Saturday.
There’s certainly been no shortage of suitors for Hollins, so either way, it appears he’ll be coaching some place this coming season – Memphis or not.
