Tampa Bay Rays David Price Will Need Three Rehab Starts

Good news for Tampa Bay Ray and David Price fans as the ace is working his way back to the rotation.

Price reported feeling “good” coming out of his first bullpen session since May 15th and assuming all checks out well in the next week, he will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham potentially by next weekend.

Per Roger Mooney:

Maddon said Price will need 3 rehab starts before rejoining team so he won’t be back until late this month/ early July

The 2012 American League Cy Young award winner struggled out of the gate this season, posting a woeful 5.25 ERA in nine starts prior to being placed on the disabled list on May 16th.

Price’s left triceps strain was originally deemed relatively minor as the team only expected him to miss a start or two, but an MRI proved otherwise, despite showing “nothing serious” as the Rays put it.

Assuming there are no set backs in the next week nor during his rehab stint, Price should be back before the Mid-Summer Classic.
