As reported by ESPN’s Matt Giles, top Florida Gator commit Chris Walker could miss the entirety of the 2013-2014 basketball season as a result of an academic issue.
The 6-foot-10 Walker was the #12-ranked player in the ESPN recruiting rankings this season, and as a five-star recruit, helped to give Florida one of the most impressive recruiting classes in the country. There have been various reports (by both ESPN and CBS’s Gary Parrish) in recent days concerning the lack of minimum academic requirements from Walker, and as a result, there is real concern that he will be ineligible when Midnight Madness arrives in October.
Walker, with the help of his other incoming freshman teammate Kasey Hill, is set to keep Florida in the top-10 this season, despite numerous roster defections in the off-season. The potential frontcourt duo of Walker and the returning Patric Young would be very scary in the depleted SEC, and there is obvious focus on the situation going forward.
In the coming weeks and days, it will certainly be easier to see whether Walker will meet the minimum requirements and thus, will be eligible for the season, but as Gator Nation holds their collective breath, all eyes will be on Walker’s transcripts, and the decision-makers in Gainesville.
