New York Yankees Derek Jeter Rehabbing and Nearing Return

Although Derek Jeter is no longer the force he once was, the Bronx Bombers will most certainly be happy to get him back on the field given the lack of production they’ve felt from the shortstop position this season.

Jeter, who recently had a follow-up with his surgeon this weekend was spotted at the Yankees Tampa complex working out, taking ground balls and dry swings according to Andrew Marchand.

Per Marchand:

Jeter is back on the field in Tampa. He took 25 dry swings today and fielded 20 grounders right at him, Brian Cashman told me. Story soon.

Dry swings and grounders aside, any production they’ll get from Jeter when he returns will be welcomed. Jayson Nix, who has been the primary fill-in for Jeter, is currently hitting .256 with a home run and 16 RBI through 54 games.

It’s hopeful, barring any setbacks, Jeter will return to the New York diamond around the All-Star break.

The face of the Yankees franchise, who is recovering from a devastating ankle injury, hit .316 last season with 15 home runs and 58 RBI.
