Recent rumors have linked Chelsea captain John Terry with AS Monaco, but Jose Mourinho says that the 32-year-old will stay with the team this summer.

According to BBC, Mourinho said: ”John is the club captain. I’m more than happy with that and so are the fans.”

Many Chelsea fans that would like to keep Terry around were probably a little worried, as Monaco are willing to spend big money this summer and have already signed the likes of Joao Moutinho and Falcao.

While Mourinho is not shy with moving players and reshaping Chelsea as the team’s new manager, Terry should remain at Stamford Bridge.

However, while Terry will likely be wearing blue next season, Mourinho has not given anyone any assurance, with the centre-back being no exception: ”With the armband? Only when he plays. If he isn’t in the starting XI he won’t have the armband.”

And earning a spot in the starting eleven might not be as easy as you would think. Last season Terry struggled with injuries and was limited to just 14 Premier League appearances, in which he found the net four times.
