Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson Set For This Fall

It has been speculated that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones could be set up for a potential superfight with middleweight champ Anderson Silva, but now we have learned who his next opponent will be. According to UFC president Dana White, Jones will defend his title against Alexander Gustafsson later this fall.

White dropped the news casually on Twitter in response to a fan question:

It is a bout that many had been expecting, but they were unsure of just how soon the bout would take place.

Gustafsson presents an interesting challenge for the champ because of his lengthy frame. Jones has the reach advantage over nearly all of his opponents, but Gustafsson is the first person who can match the champions reach and length. It will be interesting to see how Jones will respond to not having clear advantages in the department.

No official date or event was announced for the fight, so we will continue to keep you updated with more information as it becomes available.
