The New York Mets have a very unique and odd obsession when it comes to third baseman David Wright making the Major League All-Star game.
Last year, general manager Sandy Alderson made waves when he blasted San Francisco Giant fans for voting in Pablo Sandoval, suggesting that his “cute” nickname was the reason behind him having more votes than Wright.
ASG election of “Kung Fu Panda” shows the value of a cute nickname. Surprised Giants fans didn’t elect a “ball dude” to start at 3B.
Hoping to make sure Wright doesn’t get the short end of the stick this time, according to a report on Deadspin, the Mets contacted a “cougar” dating website which recently voted Wright as the “hottest cub” in search of help.
The site, which touts itself as a place for “younger hot men to meet sexy older professional women” is operated by the same company who owns the relatively more well known “secret” dating website Ashley Madison.
The idea was eventually scrapped as the recently married Wright had no desire to play a part in the festivities, though, that doesn’t make the exchange of e-mails between the site and the Mets organization any less hilarious.
We are trying to help push David Wright into the starting line-up for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field (his home stadium). He currently trails in the voting by 100,000 votes, even though he won win your vote as “MLB’s Hottest Cub”. We were wondering if you would be able to blog/post a story asking your users (who apparently admire David and would love seeing him play in the All-Star Game) to go to the below link to vote David and #VoteWrightNow as he needs their help.
Enjoy the e-mail exchange.
