UFC's Chael Sonnen Rips LeBron James on Jim Rome Show (Video)

UFC light heavyweight and former middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen is no stranger to trash talk, but he has generally kept his comments directed at those within his own sport. That all changed on Tuesday night during an appearance on The Jime Rome Show on Showtime when Sonnen was asked about Miami Heat star LeBron James.

Sonnen didn’t hold back and lashed out at LeBron for being a dork and he criticized the term “world champion.”

“I think Lebron is a dork, I don’t understand this whole thing. You have to understand, it frustrates me to hear that these guys are world champions,” Sonnen said. “Look he won one world championships and was in the Olympic games. It’s so aggravating to hear somebody win an NBA title and be called a world champion when it’s only done in America. If you’re not a global event where everybody can participate, you didn’t win a world title, you won a national title.”

Sonnen does have a point there — can you imagine his thoughts on the World Series?

Now, before everyone gets all up in arms and their panties in a bunch, remember that this is Chael Sonnen we are talking about here. Sonnen loves to make controversial remarks and enjoys getting a rise out of people. He has used that to his advantage in the past talking his way in to a number of the UFC’s biggest fights.  For him, it works.

While everyone will be talking about Sonnen ripping on LeBron, I’d be most concerned for him over his comments at the end of the video clip where he says he would love to slap Ray Lewis. That could be asking for trouble.
