Last week it was reported that the original Ultimate Fighter winner, Diego Sanchez, was set to be a part of the UFC 164 card against an unnamed opponent. Now, it looks like we may have that name. Reports began to surface on Thursday night that Sanchez would be facing off against former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez later this fall.

From MMA Junkie:

…multiple sources close to the fighters on Thursday told MMAjunkie.com that Sanchez is targeted for a fight against former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez (21-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) this fall, likely in October or November.

There is no official word that Sanchez vs. Melendez will be a part of the UFC 164 card, but that is the event that he has been linked to for the past week.

If Sanchez vs. Melendez does take place at the event, which is set to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 31, they could be setting themselves up for a crack at the title with the lightweight championship match between champ Benson Henderson and TJ Grant taking the headliner slot.

The UFC has been introducing a number of fall match ups, so stay tuned as we learn more.
