Texas Rangers Will Keep Jurickson Profar in Majors, Activate Ian Kinsler From DL

There were rumors that the Texas Rangers would send down baseball’s top prospect in Jurickson Profar once Ian Kinsler returned from the disabled list.

Today, they decided to squash those rumors by keeping Profar in the majors and will use Baseball America’s and MLB.com’s number one ranked prospect in a “super utility” role.

Per Evan Grant:

Rangers activate Kinsler, option Garcia. Profar stays in super utility role

The 20 year old Profar (he just turned 20 in February) has been impressive during his relatively short stay in Texas, posting a .287 average along with 2 home runs and 7 RBI in 87 at bat’s.

Moving into a “super utility” role, the Rangers will do their best to keep the talented Curacao native on the field on a day to day basis, moving from the infield to the outfield to keep him fresh.

By opting to keep him on the active roster, the Rangers decided to option Leury Garcia to Triple-A Round Rock to create roster space for the activated Ian Kinsler. Garcia had a .192/.236/.231 triple slash over 25 games this season.
