The main event between Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman was an intriguing match up of two UFC veterans who were looking to make a big statement. For Burkman, he has earned wins in the previous two World Series of Fighting events, while Fitch has dropped two of his last three fights. It was the first time Fitch fought outside of the octagon since 2005 and he was looking to land his first stoppage victory since 2007.
Fitch came out pressing the action with his new crooked mohawk look, while Burkman was poised to land the big counter strike.
Burkman nailed Fitch with a huge shot that rocked Fitch and he jumped on the opportunity. Burkman landed a flurry of punches on Fitch before sinking in a guillotine choke that put the former UFC contender to sleep. Before referee Steve Mazzagatti could step in to stop the action, Burkman realized that Fitch had gone unconscious and stood up with his hand raised.
It was one of the most impressive performances of his career, as he advances to 3-0 in his WSOF career.
Official time of the stoppage was 41 seconds of round one.
