Bob Costas Says New York Mets Are Part of Western Civilization's Decline

Reviewing the resume of famed sports broadcaster Bob Costas will take a while. From the Curt Gowdy Media Award to the Dick Schaap Award to the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, Costas certainly has pedigree. He’s had his own television show on HBO, he’s been the voice of just about every major television network at one point and he was the face of MLB Network when it premiered back in 2009.

He also apparently has a strong hate for the New York Mets.

While doing a “sports break” for NBC today during the U.S. Open, Costas belittled the Metropolitans who just put together an impressive four run rally in the bottom of the 9th to defeat the Chicago Cubs.

The walkoff home run from recently recalled Kirk Nieuwenhuis sent the Mets and their fans into a frenzy, one that was too much for the esteemed Costas who proceeded to suggest the Mets were part of the reason for the “on-going decline of Western Civilization”.

Whatever you say, Bill Walton.
