Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada hosted UFC 161 last night at the post fight press conference. A whopping 14,754 fans attended for a live game of $3.15 million at the MTS Centre. White starts off saying the previous record gate at this venue was $1.8 million, by some band, and UFC 161 broke that record with $3.15 million at the gate. White suggests possibly Elton John or the Rolling Stones
White said the Canadian crowd impressed him and pointed out that nearly 11,000 of the 14,754 fans took their seats ahead of the night’s preliminary fight between Dustin Pague and Yves Jabouin. Dana White called it a “solid card.”
Fight of the night: Stout vs Krause (each wins $50,000)
KO of the night: Shawn Jordan (wins $50,000)
Submission of the night: James Krause (wins $50,000)
That means Krause walked away with a bonus of 100K, not bad for his UFC Debut. At the beginning of the press conference a reporter asks James Krause about the win and “life changing” money, and before he gets a chance to win Dana White chimed in saying “lets hope he passes the drug test.”
Roy Nelson broke a record by absorbing 437 significant strikes without being knocked out.
Rashad Evans narrowly beat Dan Henderson in a split decision in the main card. Dana White said the fight could have gone either way, that Dan Henderson being announced the winner wouldn’t have been surprising.
