Earlier today, Monta Ellis reportedly told the Milwaukee Bucks that he was opting out of his contract to become a free agent and has interest in playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, this according to Gary Woelfel.

I’m not sure where Woelfel was going at the end of his tweet as he appeared unaware that it cut off, but partial tweet or not it’s hard to envision the interest from the Grizzlies being mutual.
Going into the 2013-14 season, the Memphis Grizzlies will have a team salary of nearly $58 million dollars and that’s without exercising the options on Austin Daye and Jon Leuer. That also doesn’t include Tony Allen, who is an unrestricted free agent and somebody the Grizzlies will obviously want back.
The Grizzlies could try to swing a sing and trade for Ellis, but overall it just seems like an unlikely scenario despite Ellis’ interest.
