Monta Ellis Tells Milwaukee Bucks he is Becoming a Free Agent

Milwaukee Bucks guard Monta Ellis has informed the franchise he will be entering free agency, this according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard.

Per ESPN:

Sources: Monte Ellis has told Bucks he is opting out of the 1-year, $11 million left on his contract. Will become coveted free agent

Despite spelling Monta’s name incorrectly, this isn’t exactly fresh news as Ellis had made no secrets about his desire to leave Wisconsin. The former long time Golden State Warrior earlier told friends that he was “bolting” Milwaukee, this after rejecting a two year, $26 million dollar deal.

Ellis should draw some significant interest on the free agent market though will clearly be a few steps behind free agents like Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and even Andre Iguodala.

There have been rumors that Ellis would be interested in joining the Sacramento Kings who hired former Warrior assistant coach Michael Malone. Malone and Ellis had a close relationship during their short tenure by the Bay and Ellis seemed open to a reunion, though, it’s unlikely unless the Kings make a move with current restricted free agent Tyreke Evans.
