Per the Dallas Morning News:
Armed with their highest draft pick in more than a decade, the Mavericks are thinking strongly about trading the asset.
And “strongly” means it is a virtual certainty.
One source put the chances of the Mavericks having the 13th overall draft pick on their opening-day roster next season at 0 percent.
By using their pick in the first round the Mavericks would be guaranteeing money to an incoming rookie, something they don’t want to do.
It’s been rumored that the Mavericks offered the pick along with small forward Shawn Marion to the Cleveland Cavaliers but were rebuffed when they requested a 2014 first round pick in exchange. Another rumored team who may be interested in the pick would be the Sacramento Kings, who under new ownership would be far more willing to spend money and currently lack a respectable NBA small forward.
