Atlanta Braves Place Slugger Evan Gattis On Disabled List

National League pitchers can sleep a bit easier tonight and for the next fifteen days or so as Atlanta Braves power bat Evan Gattis has been placed on the disabled list.

The 26 year old Gattis has an insane 14 home runs this year in just 183 at bat’s, good for a bomb every 13 plate appearances.

There’s no word on how the injury, which the Braves are calling an “oblique strain” occurred, but oblique injuries are known to linger, something the Braves and Gattis are concerned about.

To fill his roster spot, Tyler Pastornicky will be activated though Gerald Laird will take over the backup catching duties.

The throwback, no batting gloves wearing Gattis has essentially all but come out of nowhere this season, his first in the Majors, after spending three plus years at the A and AA levels. Gattis simply skipped over the AAA level, not so much due to talent as he only hit .258 last year at Double-A Mississippi but out of necessity thanks to the Brian McCann injury early in the season.
