21-year-old Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne received a taste of Bundesliga soccer last season, as Chelsea loaned him out to Werder Bremen; a team that almost ended up in the 2. Bundesliga. According to Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc, via Sky Sports, De Bryune would like to join the second-best team in the Bundesliga and the Champions League runner-ups. Dortmund is interested in acquiring De Bruyne from Chelsea, and Zorc knows that De Bruyne “is wanting to make a transfer” to the elite German squad. Whether or not they can pry the young midfielder from other teams is another question, but it is positive news for Dortmund that the team has more than piqued De Bruyne’s interest.
Last season on loan at Werder, De Bruyne had excellent success with ten goals and nine assists in 33 games as one of the club’s most valuable performers. The former KRC Genk prospect has always impressed on loans, and it has led to bigger things for him. Chelsea actually loaned him out from Genk, and then completed a move to add the Belgian MF to the club. Now, it looks like De Bruyne could be out of London and off to a bigger role on a large club in mainland Europe.
Zorc also addressed Sky Sports regarding the rumors that Dortmund has indeed secured Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has been heavily linked to the club. However, Zorc stated that the rumors that Eriksen has moved to Dortmund are false. It will be interesting to hear which other clubs are interested in De Bruyne, who has so much potential at 21 and was key in helping the Bremers avoid relegation.
