With potential coaching candidates drying it, it appears that the Memphis Grizzlies are close to ending their search for a head coach, this according to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears.
Grizzlies expected to complete coaching search by week’s end by interviewing own assistant Dave Joeger with no new candidates, source said.
The Grizzlies have interviewed a handful of potential candidates ranging from Alvin Gentry to 2012-2013 NBA Coach of the Year winner, George Karl.
No front runners have been announced as of yet, though, it’s been reported that Gentry “impressed” the Grizzlies front office during his most recent interview.
Karl on the other hand has blatantly campaigned for the job opening, but his price tag and the Grizzlies’ analytical approach in the front office may force the franchise to look elsewhere.
The Grizzlies head coaching job became vacant when they fired Lionel Hollins earlier this month after the two sides struggled to find middle ground on a new contract.
