New York Yankees Place Mark Teixeira On Disabled List

Yesterday, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he was “personally” leaning to have first baseman Mark Teixeira placed on the disabled list and apparently his wishes have come true.

Teixeira will be placed on the DL retroactive to June 16th with right wrist inflammation.

The powerful Tex re-aggravated a wrist injury and while an MRI revealed no new damage, he was still experiencing quite a bit of pain leading to an injection of cortisone. The Yankees are hopeful that a few weeks off will give Tex’s wrist enough time to heal, though, that might be wishful thinking.

Teixeira missed the first two months of the season mostly due to the re-aggravated wrist injury and it unfortunately doesn’t appear to be healing properly.

There’s been no talk (at least not publicly) about going under the knife, but one has to suspect an operation becoming a possibility if the Yankees infielder struggles upon his return or if the injury keeps him out longer than the expected fifteen days.
