Yesterday it was announced that the Memphis Grizzlies hoped to have a decision on a head coach by the end of this week and today it appears that they may have reduced down the potential candidates.

Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that 2012-13 NBA Coach of the Year George Karl interviewed with the Grizzlies yesterday with Alvin Gentry interviewing on Thursday.

Per Tillery:

Griz coach update: Karl interviewed, left town today; Joerger will interview Wednesday; Gentry back on Thursday, per source. CA story coming

While Joerger will presumably interview for a first time(??) both Karl and Gentry have already interviewed at least once and may potentially be the favorites going into the hire considering the multiple interviews. Of course, that’s nothing more than pancake batter and speculation on my part, but it seems somewhat reasonable given the Grizzlies self-imposed time restrictions and the fact both were brought back for additional interviews.

Gentry last coached the Phoenix Suns while Karl was fired by the Denver Nuggets just weeks ago.
