There were reports that linked the firing of Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl to his disinterest in playing big man JaVale McGee, so newly appointed Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly wants to make one thing clear – he’s a big fan of McGee.
#Nuggets exec Tim Connelly was in Washington when the Wizards drafted JaVale McGee: “I’m a big JaVale McGee fan. I expect a lot from him.”
McGee was acquired from the aforementioned Washington Wizards during the 2011-12 season and during the following offseason signed a four year, $44 million dollar extension with the Nuggets. In other words, Connelly better like him.
The high flying big man struggled to see floor time under George Karl, cracking just over 20 minute a game during his initial season in Denver – even less this year. With a new coach, new GM and a different atmosphere in Denver, McGee is hopeful a change of culture will get him more time on the hardwood.
I’d say an improved jumper and footwork would probably be helpful as well.
