LA Clippers To Wait On Garnett Trade, Just Want Doc Rivers From Boston Celtics

After the NBA essentially told the Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics they couldn’t complete the two trades they had agreed upon as it would have violated NBA rules, the Clippers have backed off their desire for Kevin Garnett and are only attempting to bring Doc Rivers to LA.

Per ESPN:

Clippers to focus on hiring coach Doc Rivers. Team will pursue Kevin Garnett & Paul Pierce later.

While the Clippers would like Garnett, obviously, their main issue is satisfying superstar point guard Chris Paul who has all but requested the Clippers bring in Rivers. Hoping to appease their franchise player, the Clippers are doing what they can to bring Doc to Los Angeles but given he can’t technically be traded, that means the Clippers can only offer compensation for Rivers.

The NBA deems “compensation” as cash and/or draft picks, so it shouldn’t be overly difficult for the two sides to come to an agreement though given the corner the Clippers have been backed into by NBA rules and Paul, Boston can certainly shoot for the moon in their demands.
