Metta World Peace Undecided If He Will Opt-Out With Los Angeles Lakers

Due just under $8 million dollars for the upcoming season, Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace (also known as Ron Artest) told Eric Pincus that he’s unsure if he will exercise the early termination option in his contract.

The clause, which would allow World Peace to become an unrestricted free agent probably wouldn’t secure the former Indiana Pacer and Sacramento King any higher of an annual salary though he could attempt to find a multi-year deal by opting out.

Metta World Peace told me Wednesday that he hasn’t decided yet on his early termination option – he seemed legitimately happy to see me

The 33 year old Peace will probably be securing his last “significant” contract either this offseason or next and coming off essentially his best season in four years (and best as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers), the prime time to cash in might be now.

There’s no word on what the Lakers would do if Peace did decide to opt-out as they’re short on replacements but they may deem to spend their money elsewhere, a risk World Peace may find difficulty in taking.
