While a handful of names have been rumored to be the number one overall selection by the Cleveland Cavaliers in next weeks NBA draft, few have made sense. And while both Nerlens Noel and Ben McLemore have both have their names suggested as to who the Cavs may select, one name has been noticeably absent – Georgetown’s Otto Porter. Any reason as to why? Maybe Porter might actually be in the mix for the top overall spot? It sure sounds like it, according to Gary Woeful:
I’m hearing Cavs have moved Otto Porter to the top of their draft board.
Porter is one of the best talents in the draft and unlike the vast majority, can contribute at a high level immediately.
No, maybe his ceiling isn’t as high as a select handful but potential is a dirty, dirty word that has set many franchises back. With Porter, you pretty much know what you’re getting without any question marks.
Will he be taken first overall in the 2013 NBA Draft? It’s certainly possible. It’s still hard for me personally to see the Cavaliers passing on Noel, but if there was a backup selection to Noel, I’m not sure how you pass on Porter who very well could be the best player in the draft.
