After the Los Angeles Clippers refused to part with any compensation for Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, they’ve apparently backed off their stance – but not enough for the C’s.
According to Yahoo Sports, the Clippers finally did muster up an offer for Rivers, but it was only a second round draft pick, not the first round pick the Celtics have been demanding.
The Celtics declined.
Clippers raised idea of future 2nd round pick for rights to Doc Rivers, but Celtics waiting on 1st rounder, sources tell Y! Talks nowhere.
Not only was the pick nothing more than a simple second rounder, it was a future second rounder. Hell, there were probably some type of restrictions on it as well.
Clearly, the Clippers feel like Doc Rivers doesn’t want to be in Boston and are refusing to give anything of value away as they clearly feel like the Celtics will eventually let Rivers go as they morph into their rebuilding mode. It’s a pretty big risk to take, especially given the Clippers first rounder that the Celtics are asking for wont be much other than a pick in the late 20’s.
